Cricket Returns to the Deane

Cricket Returns to the Deane

Sam Shaikh9 Jul 2020 - 16:58

Cricket returns to the Deane for the first time this season as players get together to compete in inter-club matches this weekend.

After the Government moved to approve recreational cricket last week, the cricket committee and club captains have moved quickly to arrange fixtures and make up for time lost to the coronavirus pandemic.

Many thanks must go to the committee and volunteers for driving the club forward to this point, special mention goes to the groundstaff for maintaining the club and grounds over the last couple of months so that we are now in a position to play cricket again.

Inter-club Friendlies
On Saturday afternoon, the 1st/2nd X1 squads combine for a 40 over inter club friendly from 1.30pm.

With a number of exciting players added to club ranks at training in the last few weeks and the prospect of league cricket returning soon, a competitive encounter is in prospect.

1st X1 captain Rob Woodman will lead one side with 2nd X1 skipper Alastair Warren leading the other. With the weather set fair for the weekend the match will provide a good opportunity for players to press their case for when league cricket resumes later this month.

The 3rd and 4th X1’s will also meet at Blagdon Hill CC on Saturday, whilst on Sunday the U15’s start their season at the Deane in an inter-squad match and this will be followed by the 5th X1 and the Womens X1 for a inter club game from 2pm.
